I just received this kennel today and I am disappointed with it. I had done extensive research to purchase a hard sided (plastic) crate, and chose this one because overall the product received good reviews, and a merchant was offering it for what I thought was an excellent price ($27 + shipping). I read many reviews, read the company's website descriptions of the crate, carefully reviewed the dimensions, measured my dog, etc. But when I put it together 5 minutes ago, it became clear that it is entirely too small for what I need. The product information given on the company's website states that this size (26 inch) is for pets up to 35 pounds. But I would never use it for a dog of that weight/size, and can't use it for my dog who is 24 lbs. I would say that this crate in the 26 inch size is a decent size and good crate for dogs 15 lbs and under, only. Background: I bought this plastic crate primarily to use for my dog who is 24 lbs (Boston Terrier), and also planned on using it temporarily for my foster dog who is 14 lbs. I did not use it for airplane travel, just intended to use it on an occasional basis when I travel with my dog and need to bring a long a crate for him to use in the rare instances I need to leave him in the hotel room/friend's house etc. for a brief period while I am out so he is not unattended.I have a sturdy but heavy black metal wire crate for my dog that I use when I travel with him, and was looking for something still sturdy but lighter and easier to travel with. I also am planning on taking the dogs on a trip next week and thought I could use this new crate for my foster dog (and still bring the metal crate for my dog), and then after the trip and after my foster dog is adopted, use the plastic crate with my dog. But there is no way that my 24 lb dog would be comfortable in this crate, it is way too small. He would only have a tiny bit of room above his head if he was standing up, and I don't know if there is even enough room for him to stand up and change positions if he wanted. (He refuses to go inside the crate and I don't blame him - but he has no problem going into taller and larger crates). My dog's metal crate is the 30 inch size and truth be told it is a bit big for him - he has LOTS of room in it, so I thought this "26 inch" would be fine. But the sides of the crate do not go straight down - they slope at the bottom so there is less room than the measurements indicate it has.Thankfully I should be able to use it on a very short term basis with my 14 lb foster dog (also a Boston Terrier). But he is a very petite, slim, tiny little dog in the first place. There is a decent amount of room for him, although I would still prefer for him to have more room over his head. But I was able to get him to go in it and he is currently taking a nap inside of it, so hopefully he will tolerate it on a road trip next week and to stay in at times while at the hotel. I will donate this crate to the rescue group (well, to my foster dog's permanent family who adopts him), but I didn't order it for that purpose and am bummed that I have to keep looking for a lighter crate to use long term with my dog.The next size up in this crate is a 32 inch, which I debated purchasing because my dog's metal crate is 30 inches. But the company's website states that the 32 inch side fits dogs up to 50 pounds, and I thought it was unnecessary to get that much of a larger size since mine is only 24 lbs. Also, his 30 inch metal crate is pretty big and he does not need any more room than 30 inches, so I thought the 32 inch was too big for that reason. But maybe due to the sloping sides and short height of this particular product, the 32 inch would have been a better choice. (It was also about $30 more which I didn't want to spend if I didn't have to).Maybe this crate is designed solely to be an airplane transport crate and not for dogs to use in a home or as a bed while traveling. If that is the case, maybe it's an OK product for some. But I would definitely recommend if you are looking at buying this crate, buy t at least one size LARGER than you are planning on, if not TWO sizes larger, to ensure that your dog is comfortable. Your dog will appreciate it!Pros: Got what I thought was an excellent price ($27 + shipping) for this item. Shipping was quick. Easy to put together. Good gate locking mechanism.Cons: Too small for my 24 lb dog when company states it is for pets up to 35 pounds. Too short of a ceiling in this 26 inch size - my 24 lb dog refused to go inside - and I don't blame him, it is like shoving him into a small dark box. Packaging of the item was terrible - box was completely falling apart. Luckily none of the parts seemed damaged. The item was filthy, covered in dirt and dust. Perhaps it was such a great price because the seller had it stored in a dirty dusty shed or warehouse? Who knows.Roughly 5 years ago, I purchased a N2N double door pet kennel for my cat. Well we are now adding an addition to our furry family and since the last N2N was so great, I figured why not get another one just like it. I love the top access because it allows me to put my feisty feline in the carrier through the top and keep him in there even if he doesn't really want to go in there at that particular time. Just add a little blanket or towel on the bottom for comfort and to prevent sliding and you're good to go. The ease of accessing your furr baby through the front or top is a wonderful convenience. Another great thing about these carriers is that you can open the access gates from both sides or remove them both entirely if needed. Of course, the down side of this is that it can be difficult to get back on if you take it off completely. Well, I loved the last one so much that I went in search of one just like it and after looking literally everywhere I could think of (I can't believe I didn't try the amazing Amazon.com first...ugh!) I came here and lo and behold the carrier I've been searching for, though not in the greatest selection of colors anymore. I was hoping for a pink one for my new addition who is a female feline to go with my blue one that was purchased for my male cat. However, beggars can't be choosers so I was happy to purchase this one. Shipping was super fast and it arrived yesterday. I put it together which was quick and easy. No one got hurt and I didn't feel the urge to throw anything (nice!). When I compared it to my older one, I did notice a significant and noticeable difference in quality and weight. The new one is lighter and though you would think this would be a good thing, it kind of feels a little less secure. I put my 13lb cat in the carrier and it seems to work just like the old one. If anything changes I will update my review, but it seems to be great so far and my old one is holding together perfectly 5 years later.I've compared other kennels at a mid range price and this one was perfect because of the locking system. The other kennels in the same price range have snap locks. And, the snap lock types are not dependable. Sometimes they won't snap shut (this happened when sampling other types in a store and even the store personnel could not snap it shut) and sometimes they come unsnapped while in use. The sliding locks on this kennel are easy to close and they stay closed. It also comes with 2 extra Velcro ties that can be used to secure the kennel on either side to something else and which also is an additional security that holds the top to the bottom. I have a 16 lb. Dachshund/Chihuahua mix and the 26" kennel was perfect. I had a smaller kennel previously but it was too small for her to turn around. I assume this is approved for airline use because it has an airline symbol on the side. But, to be sure you'd have to contact the manufacturer. The only thing missing that the others have is the small receptacle on the top to hold snacks or water cup and it doesn't have a seat belt latch on the top. But these are things I did not need. I recommend this kennel over others in the same price range. We actually bought this carrier because one of our cats was terrified of his carrier, so I researched what to do, and the first thing was to get a carrier that was top loading. After working with him for weeks on end by setting him in and letting him jump out immediately, and also just by keeping the carrier in the living room with the front door open at all times so he could go in and out as he pleased, (plus several other things), we were finally able to take a trip to the Vet without a total meltdown. We liked this one so much that we bought another one, since we have more than one cat and found that having a top loader made it so much easier to extract the cats when they don't want to come out, like when they are at the Vet! One of our cats weighs 16 lbs, and he still fits quite comforably in this carrier. My only issue is that I sometimes have a problem getting the front door to latch into place.
